Ian Davenport is one of the leading British abstract artists of his generation. He graduated from Goldsmiths College of Art in 1988 and as one of the generation of Young British Artists he participated in the seminal 1988 exhibition Freeze. Two years after graduation he had his first solo show and a year later, in 1991, he was shortlisted for the Turner Prize. The subject of numerous exhibitions worldwide, Davenport has also undertaken several commissions for public installations, including the 50m long painting on Southwark Street, London. In 2017, he was invited to produce a pavilion for the 57th Venice Biennale for Swatch, and designed a limited edition watch. Davenport has also recently hand-painted a series of porcelain plates in collaboration with Meissen and designed a special edition bag for Christian Dior. Davenport lives and works in London.
